No Fishing This Week
« on: March 15, 2010, 09:36:02 AM »
After messing around with the adjustment on my motor I’m convinced it is not a simple adjustment problem.

The motor will not hold in reverse and pops out. It sounds like it’s not going in gear all the way and pops back out.  `2`

Not very good for a motor with only 10 hours on it.  `2`  `2`

So, I’ll have to drop it off at the dealer tomorrow. Not sure how long I’ll be without it.
I’m hoping it something simple and they can fix it while I wait, but I’m not counting on that.
Pretty sure they will have to pull the lower end off.
Hopefully it’s just an adjustment and not a gear problem.

Even though it’s covered under warranty it still sucks.

You should go to West Marine & look at one of the repair manuals for your motor. They cost about $40 if you decide to buy one, but whenever I need to know anything about my engine, I just go in & look at the book I need. You should take a look at the book just to see if you can figure it out on your own, you never know, my problems are usually simple, stupid & right in front of my face. If you can't find it, no big deal, as it is still under warranty, but it would be fun if you could find it yourself! Plus, you will know exactly what to do if it ever happens again & no one is around to help you.    :A

Dave, I will be going out this Sunday with WalkonWater & our wives. I'm going to try to head back up to Turtle Bay & Bull Bay to see what the bite is doing there. I think I'll stay away from the bar this time though!    ))`   If you happen to get your boat fixed up by then, your more than welcome to come up that way & drop a line.

Also, not sure if you went to the Seafood Festival at Lashley this past weekend, but I watched the weigh in for the Flats Masters tournament, no one seemed to have anything monsterous like last year. I think this cold weather we have had played a big factor in the fishing. Not so good for those guys.    %3%

I usually service and repair as much I as can myself.

I’ve pulled power heads off, lower end units off, stern drives and motors out, rebuilt hydraulics, electrical, just about everything on my past boats including custom building consoles out of fiberglass.

The boat and motor are new so I’ll let them deal with it for now.

I’ll be pissed if it’s not done by the weekend.

Actually they promised to work on it while I’ll wait, but I think I’ll drop it off and  take care of some stuff I need to get done in Fort Myers.

I hope to see you guys on the water this weekend. I plan on fishing Saturday as well so I'll keep you updated.

Maybe others want to join in as well.

Sure! That would be great!    :)

I hope evrything works out good for your boat, I know what you mean. If I were you I'd sit & wait because then they will have a reason to get their asses moving on it. Other wise they more than likely will let it sit until you get back & say sorry we had other things to take care of. I know how they work. But, yeah, let me know if you'll be out Sunday. I'll definatly be out there doing my best to get a tight line! Hope to see you there!!    ;~D

It’s not good news.

The lower end is blown.

There are not sure why,
Maybe the thrust washer on my new SS prop did not fit correctly.

They won’t be sure until they put it all back together.

Hopefully that will happen before the weekend and I can get out and do some fishing on what is going to be the nicest weekend of the year so far.

The part (new lower end) needs to be ordered.
Fortunately its covered under warranty and the repair has been approved by Yamahaaaaaaaaaaaa

Less than 10 hours on a motor and the lower end is trashed.

They just don’t make stuff like they used too.  `2`

Bullship, Donahue, I'll keep you guys updated about meeting this weekend.

I don't think it was the thrust washer, they said it could have been.

At this point it does not matter as long as its fix and it does not cost me anything.

Yeah, the cost always sucks! That is strange that the lower unit took a crap on you already. Atleast it is covered under warranty.    ;~D

Hopefully you will have your boat back & in good shape by this weekend. I still plan on going out this Sunday, we are going to try to get out early again to beat the heat & possible showers. I know one thing, it'll be nice to get to wear shorts & flip flops again!    ~3~    Hopefully the bite will be good! This nice warm weekend should warm the water temps a bit. I did notice that the tides have been getting higher already. Thats a good sign.

I can Go Fishing
« Reply #10 on: March 19, 2010, 06:41:29 PM »
I picked up my boat this afternoon.    ~`1

All Fixed ready to go fishing.

The problem (looking at the diagram) was item 62 a retaining nut backed off causing the drive gears not to mess tightly and break.
The retaining nut had a lot of ware, a grove cut into it, that’s why they thought it was the prop.
The new SS prop I put on is fine.
I need to check the original and washers and check for ware  marks. It’s possible the original prop caused the problem.

I’m hoping to get out and do some fishing now.

Maybe Sunday afternoon.

If you happen to get out tomorrow, give me a call! Nick & I will be out. We'll be right around the same spot we were last time. We decided to fish both the West wall & East wall, possibly trying Pirates Harbor.

Let me know if your out! We'll keep an eye out for ya!     ~`4

As for the boat repairs, thats a good thing you had a warranty!     :A     Hopefully that doesn't happen to you again.     #3#

Yeah, we made it out. I got stopped by a Sherrif's Marine Patrol truck. He was at the ramp doing safety inspections. I was missing 2 lifevests & a throwable. He gave me a warning & I had to go get them from home. I thought they were on board.     $#^~    While I was gone, Nick was at the dock with the boat & our wives. While he was waiting, he decided to throw a line in just to see what might give him a run. Well, guess what? He hooked into a 28" snook right at the dock!!     ^    I still can't believe it, but he did have plenty of witnesses, I keep telling him he sucks, but I have to kid with him somehow! I'm sure he will be posting a pic soon.      %$@

As for getting out there, we didn't get far. We went as far as about Myakka, then we turned back because I was afraid of getting caught in the storm. Instead, we went up the canal toward the Edgewater bridge & tied up there. We didn't catch much except a few cats & a good size ray. Atleast we didn't get skunked! I think the warmer days have drawn the fish out a little, I know there are still plenty more hiding out there, but some have come out to play with us. Hopefully the bite stays good & only gets better!     ~`6     ~7~
