Prop size for a XR6 ?
« on: July 22, 2011, 06:21:37 PM »
Me an a buddy recently picked up a Hoog boat.

17.7 Hoog has jack plate an trim tabs, we also picked up a 2000 XR6 150 it.

my question is what size prop an pitch degree is good for the hole shot an speed?

Usually you match the prop to the motor to achieve the right RPM’s at WOT wide open throttle without going over the manufactures specifications.
Find out what the max rpm’s are for your motor then find a prop guy or dealer that is willing to let you try different props.
If you already have a prop on the motor at least you have a starting point.
When trying different props sizes and pitch you will just have to play around until you find the desired WOT rpm’s, max speed and hole shot torque.
I find that the jack plate is more helpful allowing me to maneuver to deeper water before trying to get on plane than trying to jump on plane with more torque in very shallow water.
