locating bait
« on: December 13, 2009, 07:08:50 PM »
Live in Nokomis off Albee.  Bait has disappeared in my area.  Anyone turn me on to spots for netting mullet and greenies and such?  New to area...thanks....

I live in Charlotte Harbor area & the same goes for around here. Best suggestion is to keep your eyes peeled for birds. If you see a group of birds, bait should be close by. I think it is the weird weather we have been having that is causing the bait to become less available right now. Most fish have all moved inland & up canals where the warmer waters are. You might be able to find some greenies there.    :A

I agree with the above.
Try the bridges, and the channel markers.
Birds have not helped me in finding bait lately, it’s been very hit or miss.

if you’re in a boat just get out there and look around

it's been a while since I've been on the water, but when I drive over the 41 bridge in Charlotte Harbor I always check to see what is going.

Right after the rain's until now I have not seen any bait or signs of life on the W side of the bridge.

Before all that rain we have I saw lots of life with bait boils and birds.

Went fishing from the Placeda Pier on Monday.  The Green Backs were everywhere along the pier.  Even I, who is a real novice at throwing a castnet,  had no trouble getting enough bait to last the six hours I stayed and fished.  A few Spanish were hitting along with some yellow tail.  All in all it was a great day, then again, any day of fishing is great.
Straight lines and bent poles.

Just read a reply to my 'locating bait' question from Topdog posted yesterday.  Thanks for the info.  Just where is Plecida pier?  I only know of Venice...
