I bought a boat about 4 months back, and we agreed $500 and then he wanted a small boat I had. He didn't give me the title for months, which angered me. I then sold the small boat he wanted, because I had to move, and he made no attempt to come pick up the boat, (he doesn't even have a drivers license or car.) So I move, and sell the boat for about 80 bucks and he got pretty angry. I told him there are multiple free boats on craigslist and I'd give him thier numbers. Now he needs money and he's trying to scam me saying he needs another $300, which was never apart of the deal. I just bought a motor for this boat and he's trying to do this? The boats on my property and I plan for it to stay this way. Hypothetically could I use any boat title because this is just a small old boat, with no number or anything like that.

If that guy really does have a title for it in his possesion, he could say that you stole it from him.    Undecided

As for getting any old title, you could just go to the court house & apply for a home-made title. Tell them that you built the boat yourself & you want to legalize it for use use in public waters. They should be able to help you through the process. I'm unsure of what it costs to do this, but it wouldn't hurt to look into it. Especially if there are no numbers currently on the boat, that means that the previous owner never legalized it, so it shouldn't show up in the system.

As for that guy, it's ashame that people are like that. I hate people like him.        It's unbelieveable what people try to pull over your head now-a-days. Thats awful.    Angry

Good luck with the boat & keep us informed on what you decide to do &/or what happens.

I meant the boat has no factory numbers like a model or serial number. And whats worse is the guy was a friend of ours, he said he needed money to pay bills, so basically I told him tough sh** we made a deal. And he came over to my sisters house and my sister told him off real good, so im not sure where we stand right now but i was told not to sweat it because he will give in. But still what a terrible thing to do.

I agree with what Donahue said.

Just apply for a home made title with the tax office and forget about the guy?? scrach

If there are no numbers on the boat how did that guy have it titled.

Usually the tax office give you a VIN type of sticker plus the registration numbers for the side.

Yes, that just sounded awful. As long as you go have a title made for it, you should be free & clear. Since the boat isn't some huge giant, it should be rather quick & painless. You'll have to find out what you'll need to know in order to get a title made. I know that knowing the weight is one of them, what type of material it's made from, etc.

Good luck with it & I hope everything works out between you & your friend. That's still just rotton of him to do that to you guys.    no no
